A five term Republican Representative of North Carolina, Robin Hayes, told a crowd of McCain supporters today that “”Liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”
Last week, Palin told supporters she was visiting the Pro-America parts of the country (she was campaigning in primarily Republican states at the time).
The notion that if you have a different ideology, that you are un-American is dangerous and divisive. It is also troublesome to equate faith in God, with being a Republican. In fact, Freedom of Press and Freedom of Speech are part of what sets America apart from other nations. This is dirty and dangerous ground.
In fairness, Sarah Palin apologized for her comment. We’ve yet to hear from Rep. Hayes, who is up for re-election, by the way.
